Plum cake with coconut and meringue topping

20 Aug

Not a complete success but not a complete failure either: this plum cake was loosely based on a recipe I had found in a magazine. The cake base turned out a bit too hard and it looks a bit messy but it tastes pretty good. I love the coconut taste and the meringue topping. ❤ Do you like plum cake? Do you know any good recipes?

Writing: Practical tools part 1

18 Aug

Lately I’ve been trying out Yarny. Yarny is an online writing tool. So far, I think it’s very useful. You can set a word count, write and arrange chapters, save snippets (characters, places, and things) and it automatically saves your work regularly.

I think it is very practical, user-friendly and intuitive. You only have to create a free account to get started. There’s also a pro-account (with a monthly fee) but there’s nothing I miss in the free version so far. You can also easily export your text, but so far only as a .txt file (maybe a minor drawback) and there is also some support if you want to publish your work immediately as an e-book (though I haven’t tried out that feature yet and can’t tell you more about it).

To sum things up…

Pro:

-word count

-intuitive usage

-flexible use of snippets and chapters

-free version after registration

-automatic saving feature

Contra:

-export to .txt only

-only works while you have internet access

DIY? Let’s try!

7 Aug

I’m not good at creating objects, at handicrafts in general. I would say I am a creative person (since I enjoy writing and drawing) but for some things I just don’t seem to have a talent. But then again, maybe I just need to try, maybe all it takes is some practice?
That’s why I have decided to try my hands at some ‘DIY – Do it yourself!’ – projects.

Here’s a list of things I’d like to try:

– crocheting
– repainting a picture frame
– textile printing
– creative baking

Of course I’ll post updates on my progress! And I’m thankful for helpful hints and suggestions!
Wish me luck!

News!

6 Aug

Hello everybody,

when I started this blog it was supposed to be about movies and TV shows. But I’ve come to the decision that I want to change the focus of the blog. I want it to be a more personal blog. It will, of course, still include posts about movies since they are still a big part of my life. But it will also include other posts with topics such as everyday life experiences, things I like or would like to talk about, photographies, books I am reading,… If you want to unfollow me because you are not interested in these things, go ahead. I certainly won’t be mad. If you want to stick around, I’d be very happy. 🙂

If you prefer reading my new German blog, take a look here for an equivalent to this one (content will show up soon) or here for my German movie blog.

Sunshine Award

Catastrophic Findings nominated me for the Sunshine Award! 🙂

sunshine-award21Rules for the Sunshine Award:

  • If you are nominated you must include the link in a blog, linking to the person/blog that nominated you.
  • You must answer some questions and nominate 10 fellow bloggers and link their blogs in your post. Let the people you have nominated know that you have nominated them!

1. Who is your favourite philosopher?

I never thought about this. I’m also often a bit confused about when do we call someone a philosopher? Well, the names that come to mind first are Kant and Aristoteles, so I’ll pick them.

2. What is your favourite number?

Either 5 or 6, I guess. I feel a connection to the number 5, it is a part of my home address more than once and it looks like the letter ‘S’. 6 because I was quite good at multiplying numbers with 6 when I was in primary school. I also like the number 2, because it triggers an image of two parts belonging to each other in me.

3. What is your favourite animal?

Felidae. Cats. I just love them so much. I love their independence, and that they make the rules and not ‘their’ humans. I like how different their characters can be and how elegant they are.

4. What are your Facebook and Twitter URLs?

My twitter name is @Bearnerdette but my FB account is private. 😉

5. What is your favourite time of day?

Any part of the day can be nice. I’m a night owl, who likes to be productive when it’s late. But I enjoy the sun a lot as well.

6. What was your favourite vacation?

Lapland. Sweden is on the second rank, closely followed by Greece.

7. What is your favourite physical activity?

I used to play volleyball and liked it a lot, but now it’s probably either swimming or hiking.

8. What is your favourite non-alcoholic drink?

Milk.

9. What is your favourite flower?

Lillies for how elegant they are and tulips because they are so vivid and remind me of spring. (I obvisously can never choose just one thing, can I?)

10. What is your passion?

Movies. And writing.

Update due to awesome news

19 Feb

Today I met a TV show star! Let me introduce Moomin, main character of the famous animated show ‘The Moomins’ (as well as the original books). I grew up with ‘The Moomins’ and thus was looking forward to meet him. I can say that he’s quite nice but he doesn’t talk a lot.
