My Top – Films 2012

31 Dec

It’s time for a list of my personal favorites of 2012. Probably quite a bit different from your choice of favorites, as some of the big blockbusters (e.g. The Dark Knight Rises, The Hobbit, or Skyfall) didn’t make it on the list.

1. Shame

Steve McQueen’s intense film about a sex addict came out a bit earlier in the US but for me it’s a film of 2012 (I think I saw it in January…).

2. The Hunger Games

More than just a ‘new Twilight’ – ‘The Hunger Games’ is an epic dystopian saga with exquisite performances.

3. Looper

Much more original than most other films I’ve seen this year and with a wonderful performance by Joseph Gordon-Levitt who’s definitely one of the big stars of 2012.

4. The Amazing Spider-Man

Garfield’s version of Spider-Man feels refreshingly modern and his on-screen (and off-screen) chemistry with Emma Stone was delightful to watch. Plus, it looked great in 3D.

5. Moonrise Kingdom

Wes Anderson still knows how to make perfect films with not so perfect characters. A wonderful journey with an excellent cast.

6. The Avengers

Iron Man, Thor, and the other Marvel heroes fought in this year’s biggest blockbuster. Fast-paced, funny and great to look at.
