3 Exceptional Zombie – Flicks

21 Mar

To be honest, a few years ago I still thought there could be no such thing. I mean, a really good zombie film. I thought it was all about blood and gore, and that’s mostly not a basis for a good film. Not that I mind displays of blood and violence, as long as they make sense. But not if they are the only thing constituting the plot. Well, in the past few years a few films made me change my opinion on the whole genre. Let me name 3…

1. Shaun of the Dead

Is there anyone out there who doesn’t know Simon Pegg yet? That man is a comedy genius and his humorist but bloody take on a zombie apocalypse felt refreshingly new when it came out in 2004. Director Edgar Wright presented us the zombie comedy we never knew we needed. Kudos!

2. 28 Days Later

28 Days Later is easily one of the most shocking horror films ever made. Why? Well, because here we have to face an unpleasant truth: Even if they are zombies running around on our planet, the most cruel species isn’t the brain eaters, it’s us, mankind. Cillian Murphy and Naomie Harris delivered amazing performances in this brilliant horror flick directed by Danny Boyle.

3. Zombieland

Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Bresling and, as himself, Bill Murray. Not  yet convinced? Zombieland is a witty and funny zombie adventure with just the right kind of dirty humor and bloody scenes. And it teaches us a lot about how to survive in a land full of zombies, in Zombieland. Thanks for that.
